Jack Tuchten Wholesale Produce, Inc. was founded by Jack Tuchten himself in 1974. Jack began his career in produce when he was 14 years old. At that time, he took over the family’s push cart business which had been operating on Maxwell Street. Eventually, Jack opened his own outdoor stand on Maxwell Street and Jack Tuchten Wholesale Produce, Inc., a wholesale fruit, vegetable and nut distributor, began.
In the early 1970’s, Jack bought a small building on the corner of Halsted and 19th. Jack built his business from a family push cart to a wholesale distributor.
In 1990 Jack’s granddaughter, Dawn Arkin, began working with Jack, learning the business from the founder himself. She diligently worked at Tuchten, creating the dried fruit and nut mixes as well as developing the packaging that we still sell to this day. In the mid 1990’s, Jack and Dawn took a leap of faith and moved to South Water Market. The famous South Water Market was originally designed for the horse and buggy in the mid 1920’s. In the early 2000’s, with Dawn at the helm of the company, Jack Tuchten Wholesale Produce left the antiquated South Water Market and moved into its current location on the state of the art Chicago International Produce Market.
